It’s been so long since I got up early to work on a story. I’m liking this new one I started for our writing group challenge.
It’s been ages since I properly posted on here too. I’ve been in a pretty strange phase and didn’t know what to post. I’ve been soul ruminating and reflecting big time this winter. But spring is here and it’s time I posted some of the stuff I’ve been working on.
So, writing. I’ve reviewed the awesome edit suggestions I got from Deadset Press and sent my ‘The Garage’ story back to them. I can’t wait to see it in print! And this week I got a new story draft started for our monthly writing challenge. So I’m totally stoked with that. I have had nothing substantial and new for what seemed like too long but was probably only a few months.
The interesting thing about my lull in writing this time was I didn’t worry about it. I knew I’d come back to it. After all, I love it. So instead I read loads, worked on some reviews of older stories, and kept attending our weekly writing group sessions. Those actions have been like a nice layer of lime and compost over-wintering on my writing self and now my imagination is all spring-like and sprouty again.
Sweet as!
It seems like the trick is to stay focused with your intentions and goals, but just do what you can and go gently on yourself. And trusting myself that this was just the way of the world, the ebb and flow. Mother Earth has winter so she can chill for a bit and gather her energy; it’s good when we do the same. Oh and other people. The people and voices we surround ourselves with really matter too. Keep meeting with your friends and fellow weirdos, and get help from those who know what they’re talking about. I’ve been doing that with my writing, my mountain bike riding, at work, and in my personal life. It’s the way to go.
